A tummy tuck, also known by its not-so-fancy name, abdominoplasty, is a kind of surgery done to remove excess fats and skin from the lower abdominal area.

Hence, it's called abdominoplasty.

This type of plastic surgery is often used to tighten that loose, sagging tummy (abdomen) after pregnancy or major weight loss, resulting in a flatter waistline.

In general, tummy tuck does what a normal dieting and exercise can't do much to your "ugly" out of proportion stomach.

But be cautioned: This is a major surgery that might burn your wallet. So you need to educate yourself on the cost of it before you elect to undergo the surgery.

Cost of Tummy Tuck

How much does a tummy tuck cost varies greatly from surgeon to surgeon and state to state, but you should expect to pay at least $4,000 for a mini surgery to as much as $20,000 depending on the expected complexities of tummy tuck

A mini tummy tuck costs a little less than an extended tummy tucks. For instance, a tummy tuck cost in Huntington Beach or Orange County, California might set you back anywhere between from $6000 - $12,000.

Is it worth it?

It's important not to make a decision based on the cost alone. You should always consider the quality of your surgeon and the hospital where you'll undergo the operation.

I suggest that you do a background check and find the best and qualified surgeons in your state. Get a full price quote on the surgery, taking into consideration both the pre-operative and post operative costs.

It is usually best to proceed with a surgeon who’s got a good reputation or track records for the operation, even if they’re not the least expensive in town.

Look for a plastic surgeon who is a certified member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) which requires a surgeon to have a minimum of 5 years experience as a surgeon, and a minimum of 2 years as a plastic surgeon.

Remember, the cost of a good tummy tuck procedure is cheaper than the price of a bad surgery followed by a revision.

And also get referrals whenever possible.

The price of a tummy will depend on the place where you will have it done.

In the US the difference of price can be huge between a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills and a plastic surgeon in Wisconsin. However you can have a top surgery done in Wisconsin having paid less the half of price compared with the price that you would pay in Beverly Hills.

This difference can be bigger if you choose to have your surgery done overseas.

For example in South America you can find an excellent top plastic surgeon who could charge you less than 3000 US$ for your tummy tuck surgery.

Go overseas for my surgery is what I chose. I went to Bolivia for my plastic surgery and my trip was worth it. My results are amazing and I paid less than 5000 US$ for several surgeries.

I chose to organize my trip via a medical agency (MakoverTravel .com) and I am very happy with my choice. I highly recommend to anyone that wants to save money to go overseas to carry out a plastic surgery. In South America you can have your surgery with a top plastic surgeon for a very affordable price!

For example in Bolivia you would pay for a tummy tuck 2600 US$.

In Brazil around 3000 US$

In Argentine around 3200 US$

It's very cheap if you compare with the costs in the US.

Hi Jenny, I followed your recommendation and I decided go to Bolivia for my tummy tuck and breast lift on September 2010…VERY GOOD CHOICE thank you!

I have 3 kids but I finally had my last almost 2 years. I am thrilled that I did it, the results are fantastic and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it.

I am not going to lie to you when I came out of surgery I was in severe pain and needed my Vikiden right away. The feeling is not the same like a c section it is a feeling of tightness and a lot of soreness but it hurt like hell. They took off 4.5 pounds which is alot to me because I am not a big girl but I know after all the kids "I believe it."

I am 7 months into it and I can my results are amazing I see my muscle definition in my stomach that I have not seen since I was 16 years old. Now I can wear anything I want without the folds of my extra skin and fat. The scar is not bad neither and not that devastating to me after having the c section scar but I can't help looking in the mirror every time I pass by because I still can't believe it.

To those who is deciding to do it I say go for it but do your research as far as doctor's and everyone results are totally different,, Makeover Travel in Bolivia was an excellent choice, the price I paid for my surgery is so affordable compared to the US prices.. $7,800 for a breast lift with implants + a full body liposuction (arms, abs, abs flanks, inner thigh, back) + a full tummy tuck + 2 weeks in a 4**** + complete blood test before surgery + transportation + bilingual assistant anytime I need,, it’s just a GIFT!

Follow direction and stay healthy is the key.

Good Luck

Hi Jenny and Doroty:

Your posts inspired me! What Drs. would you recommend and/or a contact at Makeover Travel?, and what amount can I expect to pay for a nurse or aide for that first week of care?
