What's the Purpose of a Dehumidifier?
73Many households own dehumidifiers but few know what purpose they serve.
The humidity level in our home is important to our health. Humidity is
described as a water moisture in the air we breathe. Too much or too
little humidity can cause everything from condensation and mold to respiratory problems.
That's where dehumidifier helps to bring down the level of humidity to where it should be and keep your home comfortably dry. It simply removes humidity by taking moisture out of the air.
Common allergens such as mold and dust mites thrive in area of high humidity and if left alone, it could pose a variety of health problems like asthma, allergies and other respiratory health problems.
If you're living in a wet, damp climate or someone in the house is allergy to mold, a dehumidifier is necessary to keep the quality of air in your living space to its optimal level.
How does a dehumidifier work?
Warm air from the room is pulled into a dehumidifier through a fan and this constant pulling of warm air allows the collection of moisture in the room while the warm air passes over a cold coil.
It works pretty much the same as a regular air conditioner with both hot and cold coils and a fan.
Once the air is cooled, it can no longer hold mositure. When the warm air touches the cold coils, the water in the air condenses and forms on the coils and falls into a collection pocket inside a dehumidifier.
Just like when you place a glass of ice water outside a hot and humid area where the cold glass collects the mositure from the warm air onto the glass surface.
Finally, the cooled air runs across the hot coils, heated and direct the air back to room temperature without the moisture.
While an air conditioner helps change the temperature of the air (and dehumidify), a dehumidifier only removes the moisture. Thus a dehumidifier is not needed when an air conditioner is operating which is in fact the best alternative to dehumidifier.
Due to poor ventilation, basement is prone to dampness which is a perfect breeding ground for molds and for this reason alone, basement dehumidifier are commonly used in basement where installing an air conditioner isn't an option.
One of the most popular basement dehumidifiers, Santa Fe Dehumidifier has been the preferred brand used by many households to eliminate basement mold and mildew problems. It can remove up 100 pints of water per day at less cost than any other dehumidifiers on the market.
If you are in the market for a basement dehumidifier, choose Santa Fe Dehumidifiers.
