Severe Nicotine Withdrawal Symptoms
83If smoking is already bad enough, quitting can even be worst. More often than not, the longer you smoke, the harder it is to quit.
The primary reason why most smokers find it tough to quit smoking is that they fail to overcome the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, even when they want to quit.
As we all know it, cigarette contains nicotine. It's the addictive
substance that makes smokers feel good with each puff. The absence of nicotine
due to quitting leads to withdrawal.
Their dependence on nicotine cause their body, in the absence of nicotine, to react by having severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Usually the first sign of nicotine withdrawal appears within 30 minutes of a smoker's last cigarette.
The most difficult and uncomfortable part of quitting is the withdrawal where you go through the physical and psychological effects of nicotine withdrawal, which in some cases, the withdrawal symptoms can be severe.
What are Some Symptoms of Nicotine Withdrawal?
The most common symptom is what often called 'quitter's flu' as it mimics a mild case of the flu. It may include sore throats, coughing as well as other symptoms associated with the flu.
Other severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms include
- intense craving for nicotine,
- tension,
- irritability,
- depression,
- short temper
- severe headaches,
- loss of concentration,
- drowsiness,
- postnasal drip,
- tightness in the chest,
- sleeplessness,
- increased appetite and weight gain.
These withdrawal symptoms will be worst in the first few days and less severe thereafter. Though after a month or so, most of the withdrawal symptoms will be gone.
While different people may experience different types of severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms, going through the process can be really uncomfortable while it lasts.
The initial pain and discomfort of withdrawal are the main reasons why relapse is common among smokers.
Giving up smoking is never an easy process. Coping with nicotine withdrawal is harder for
some than the others but it's still manageable. Granted you know what to expect when you quit.
When you're experiencing severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms, fighting it alone can be really hard.
Just so you know, there are many ways to cope with nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
One of those is nicotine replacement therapy.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy
Nicotine replacement therapy comes in the form of nicotine gum and nicotine patch. It is intended to help deal with withdrawal symptoms and cravings caused by the loss of nicotine from cigarettes.
How does it work?
Nicotine gum releases nicotine into your mouth while nicotine patch slowly releases nicotine through the skin into the blood streams.
These types of nicotine substitutes which contains about one-third the amount of nicotine
found in most cigarettes are effective in reducing the
effect of nicotine withdrawal by supplying your body with
nicotine.
Nicotine replacement therapy is safe when used properly as it greatly reduces your dependence of nicotine and doubles your chances of quitting smoking.
However, it is NOT recommended for those who are pregnant or have heart diseases.
The only drawback is that nicotine replacement products are generally more expensive than a pack of cigarettes.
CiggArrest
If you find it really hard coping with cigarette withdrawal symptoms, it helps to use a program such as CigArrest to deal with those symptoms often associated with nicotine withdrawal.
The success of its program is largely due to its use of homeopathic blend of six different herbal ingredients. These all natural, non-addictive ingredients combined help permanently break both the physical and psychological addictions and reduces the symptoms of withdrawal, thus reducing the cravings for cigarettes.
CigArest makes it a whole lot easier to deal with the physical and psychological effects of nicotine withdrawal. It is by far the best smoking cessation program.
And it works.
If you're in doubt, you can order a full 30-day trial supply of CigArest for free with no obligation whatsoever. It's probably the best way to quit smoking naturally.

I found the best way to quit smoking was through my Lord. Ive tried everything to quit smoking the best was prayer to quit the habit.
2 weeks ago i smoked my last cigarette, thanks to my God and the nicotine gum i used since then.
I'm using Chantix and it is helping with have the urge to smoke I have been 3 days smoke free so far I have along way to go
I dipped Skoal for years. Smoked too. I used Nicotine lozengers to quit tobacco 4 years ago. Became more addicted to that stuff. Just decided enough is enough. 24 hrs into cold turkey. Not dead yet.
smoked 20 cigarettes a day for 8 years and 30 for the last two. switched the e cigarette in February of 2010. quit nicotine altogether 73 hours ago. feeling like i am coming off a 10 year crack binge
nicotine withdrawl symptons are totally misunderstood by the medical profession.
My "symptons" lasted nine months and included rage, (hormone adjustment?) out of tune stomach including diarrohea, constipation, wind and lots of noises. (Trouble adjusting for some reason?) I feel as though having been a twenty to thirty day habit for eleven years, my body needed time to adjust.
As there has never been any significant research or at least none I could find, who knows? But nearly a year later I know the positives were absolutely worth it.
I had tried unsuccessfully many times with NRT but eventually just went cold turkey and haven't smoked since if your thinking of giving up I recommend this method for many reasons but remember that you won't feel better for quite some time (in my case 9 months)perhaps I was pregnant too!
not had a cigarette for five months I was on 20 a day for 30 years plus. Just had a couple of tough days but am determined not to have a cigarette i cant believe the cravings are still as strong in times of stress!!!!
I've heard from a friend that the hardest thing to do is stop smoking and he said the nicotine patches he was using just didn't work for him. He ran across a new product called an electronic cigarette and he said has change his life. It doesn't have all the bad ingredient found in regular cigarette, except one, nicotine. But he can adjust the amount so he can gradually give up smoking. And he says he can use it in public places like restaurants after that perfect meal.
Did anyone experience severe bruising on the hands after quitting a long term addiction to nicotine?
anyone else experiencing tingling?
i have smoked for 8 years non stop and would go through almost a full pack a day
my body arms and face are tingling and i am feeling a lot more vulnerable since when anything bothered me i would go smoke a cigarette
I have been smoking 20 a day for 11 years and I am finding it very difficult to quit but I am determined this time and come what may I want to keep away from that first drag.

i started three days ago....my nose is dripping like nobody's business....but who cares, its my nose after all.help me guys
I quit 4 days ago and felt like a crack addict. I have a history of panic disorder and depression. I have been off all meds for 14 months and 48 hours into quitting (due to being pregnant I went cold turkey) I was back at hospital in uncontrollable tears and fear that I had lost my mind again. So upset that I couldn't handle being that way again I was ready to top myself. Then today (day 4) I had clarity till lunch time, a small panic episode managed by meds and have been fine all night. I'm back to feeling myself. It will be interesting to see how long the insomnia lasts though. I will NEVER do this again. I'm glad of my decision to quit and I will have this to remember every time I think I want one...... 2 minutes of pleasure will never be worth the last 3 days of psychological pain!!
im into day 5 of no fags,am on half strength champix having smoked for over 40 years, does anyone else suffer with racing/slow heart, andpalpitations?i have emphysema so REALLY need to stay smokefree.
Quit 3 weeks ago, cold turkey. Smoked for 30 years. Thought I was going to die. Felt mentally and physically horrible for 2 weeks. Feel better now hope worst is behind me. Keep fighting everyone!
Am 49 year old male who has chewed Copenhagen since sixth grade. I am on my 2nd week of quitting. Feel blessed that I still have good teeth and gums and my general health. The occasional nicorette gum helps take the edge off. The "triggers" are the hardest to get through (after meals, sports, outdoor activities), but the bottom line: Its as simple as not putting any more tobacco into my body. It doesn't own me anymore.
Im only 23yrs old and had a 20 a day habbit lasting 10yrs. I am on my second month of going cold turkey and still not had a puff, I forgot what it feels like to have a cigarrette now. Im suffering more of the mental symptoms rather than the physical symptoms. Most of my physical symptoms that I suffered from have now gone apart from, headaches, dizziness, pains in chest, flu like symptoms. I can handle these easy enough but im struggling the hardest with the mental symptoms, I feel so low and depressed now, I am always anxious and on edge and also feel very lonely even though I have a lot of support and just cannot seem to sleep more than 5hrs a night. I really hope these mental symptoms disapear fast but I know it will all work out for the best as I could never see myself as a non smoker but it is slowly starting to look like a reality. Going cold turkey for me has been better than the NRT!
I am 70 and started smoking at 13.I am a chain smoker 3 pks a day and This is my 4th time trying to stop smoking I have every symptom that everyone has described,I bet a heroin addict has an easier time,This is the hardest thing I have ever done,I am surpried my wife has not left me I am a miserable person to live with right now,
Well done, Bruce and everyone else who's quitting. Keep it up. Considering the amount of misery and damage that this drug brings to people's lives it's staggering that it's legal. It gives me great pleasure to know that I'm no longer a slave to the tobacco companies.
im having a hard time in my first 24 hour period. this hour is hour 4 and i feel like im going insane pissed off and my husband says i am worse than the exorcist and he has to take a drive away from me. i hear all these stories it isnt hard but it is. my hardest is going to make every hour and every minute. ive exercised, cleaned cooked enough for 30 days but now i cant seem to keep myself distracted.
I'm almost 34 and I've smoked for 22yrs. I'm on day two. Not so sure I can handle this. Can't use Chantix, had bad reaction before. I have a trip coming up that I will have to drive by myself for the first time. Even with company I smoked to stay calm for most of it. Barring that, I'm feeling mean, weepy, resentful that my husband is doing so well, physically in pain, upset stomach, and totally irratable and impatient. Not too sure how much longer I can do this. Congratulations to everyone able to fight past this.
I'm 21 I quit smoking new years, this being my 10th day without a cig. I've been smoking since I was 13 a pack or more everyday. I was a chain smoker. I'm using the patches and even though I still have an urge to smoke with it on I have enough will power to not do so. I have flu like symptoms some headachs short temper. I'm afriad of how I'll feel on step 2 or 1 eventually I wont have the patch on at all. At Age 20 I Quit a 7 year drug addiction that started around the same time as I picked up smoking. I now live above the influence, I hope to soon make that completely true and quit smoking cigarettes forever. Just Living Life 1 Day At A Time.
Today is Day 5 smoke free. 1st day was ok and the 2nd and 3rd I felt sad and even cried. but the 4th and now the 5 its getting better! I feel so proud. this is not easy at all and i wish the obsessive thoughts of smoking would go away! my urges only last a few mins thank god. I put the patch on the night before I quit and I think that helped so much with the waking up/coffee craving. I also bought the smoke stik with 0 nicotine and that helped soooooo much the first few days, now I kinda forget about it unless I get a real small urge. Im not ashamed to use anytool avaible to me! I know they will better my chances in the long run. congrats to everyone going through this struggle. we can do it!
I'm 43. Have been smoking regularly since 1985. Four stick per day. Then when i moved to the developed country, I can only buy in packs of 20. So I indulged. 10 stick per day since 1993
I know i had to stop. I stopped for 6 month in 2009. Tragedy struck business, so i started again, but i learnt somethimng which anybody that wants to quict should know
1-The withdraw symptom is temporary
2-You will not dies
3-Yes you will fill that void with something else naturally.
4-Good news, that urge will disappear. To explain what i means, remember how you feel when you want to pee badly, think about how you feel when you finally peed. Imaging something asking you you must pea right after you just pead?
You will smell smoke and hate it, you will see people smoking and pity then, the smell will be so heavy, you'll wonder how you coped.
I'm on second day now, stopping for good. It's easy for me because i know exactly what to expect and i already told kids, i will be cranky for some time. Good luck
I began smoking at age 13(!) and quit four months ago at age 59. Thank God, I think the addiction is finally broken. For all of you out there suffering, don't give up. You can and will break this dreadful habit. God's blessings upon you all.
I have quit smoking now for 15 days the first three days were quit easy day four was hard but the last two or three days I could just kill someone holly shit I'm imPatient irritable my temper makes no sense I make no sense I just miserable and I want to make everyone else miserable if they have done the littlest thing wrong I'm all over it like now I think I'm going crazy ??????
I have used snuff for years and dicided to quit. Its been two weeks now and I feel jittery and have flue like symtoms. I cnt sleep and I cant focus on anything. I realize I needed help so I went to the patch. I feel bad now but I hope these withdrawal symtoms soon go away.
A simple cold turned into a lung infection, wound up in the hospital. I have COPD and quitting is the only option I have. Have not had a smoke in two weeks, however, I feel so weird, my legs don't want to work, so nervous and I just want to sleep. My breathing has imrpoved greatly, this other stuff is driving me up a wall. I hope I turn a corner soon. Thanks for all the info, it really helps.
I'm 38 and have been smoking since I was 16, and lived in a house where my parents smoked growing up. It has been almost two weeks and I am still experiencing crazy tightness in my chest and cramps and stuff everywhere else. Wanting to quit so i can lead a healthy life and experience the great outdoors with fewer hiccups than normal. Good luck you guys!!!
It gets better!
10 months of pure hell in my case!
